Did You Ever Wonder Who'd Like to Buy Web Hosting Packages That You Sell?

By , About.com Guide

It is an uphill, but very important task to analyze your own offerings... Funny or lame as it may sound, before you expect anyone to buy your hosting packages, you should think for a minute and analyze who'd like to buy web hosting packages that you sell, and why.

There are different hosting plans offered by hosts for a wide range of customers having specific hosting needs. One thing that a host has to acknowledge before designing the packages is that customers are much more aware than they were, just a couple of years ago. So, just lowering the price or offering catchy features like the so-called unlimited bandwidth will not give you too much of success in this competitive market.

There are different hosting services like shared hosting, dedicated hosting, business hosting, VPS hosting and reseller hosting. All these need different infrastructure and thus their prices also vary to a great extent. Needless to say that you have to design your hosting packages competitively so as to attract the customers, but even that's only job half done... Once the customer approaches you, convincing him/her to sign a deal with you can be equally difficult, thanks to the merciless competition in the hosting arena.

This is where you need to closely analyze the needs of a particular customer. Customizing the hosting packages is a great way of attracting the customer who approaches you. So, you may want to design a hosting package strictly as per his/her individual needs, and offer only the desired services; do not shove in unwanted features in the package, which are of no use (or very little use) to the customer.

Designing a wide range of hosting packages is also important, in order to attract individuals as well as companies alike. Signing deals with few corporate clients not only gives an immense boost to revenues of your company but it also promotes your name as a reliable web host, which in turn fetches more customers, and it can be a real blessing, to say the least!

Understanding the Needs of Potential Customers

As mentioned earlier, this can be quite daunting and a rather demanding task. A lot goes into technically analyzing a particular customer's exact hosting needs. As a hosting provider, you need to look into a number of things such as whether the website to be hosted is static or dynamic, if it is a high traffic website or a personal blog that barely gets a few hits everyday, how much of flash is there in the site etc. You also have to zero in on the probable peak traffic times of the website, so that you can assure that the site does not face any downtime or other technical glitches even during the peak traffic time.

Targeting the Right Customers

Depending upon the infrastructure that you've got, you can target specific customers customers by designing some attractive packages with some attractive offers and by offering them really good margins of discounts. Even if the customer doesn't demand it, always try to customize the package when any potential customer comes to your door step. It is important that you do not include wrong features in the plan, which aren't really needed by the customer.

If you want the customers to buy web hosting services from your firm, then you need to put extensive research in tapping the customers weak points, and how to lure them into buying your packages. When you look at your hosting packages, and ask yourself - "would I really buy this hosting package" and get a positive reply, with a strong reason, then you can be rest assured that a good number of people would also tend to agree with you!

Low cost web hosting packages are preferred by small businesses and individuals who don't want to spend a lot on hosting, while the big businesses and mid-size companies are always on a lookout for a reliable web hosting provider. They don't really put their money on start-ups and inexperienced ones, and usually deal with only the best web hosts that have established great rapport.

Last but definitely not the least, if you personally feel that you wouldn't really put your money on such a package, then the chances are high that most of your customers may also have a similar opinion! So, you must hope to sell only those hosting packages that you personally feel, are superior to most of the other offerings in the market. It all comes down to three things - uniqueness, pricing advantage, and your rapport in the current market. If you've got the right combination of all three, it's none less than a recipe to running a profitable web hosting business.
